Don’t Turn Away

The soft pull of the summer breeze beckons me to look around. The more I watch the beauty outside unfold, the less I want to hear of the news. I want to shut my eyes to what continues to plague the world.

The issues in our world are uncomfortable. We can be tempted to say that we have heard enough. But when we block out what is going on in the world, we miss what Jesus saw.

When He was on earth, He saw the sinners, the outcast, and the uprisings. He didn’t run from the brokenness around Him; He pursued it. Why can’t we do the same?

Jesus does not call us to shy away from the world’s problems; He calls us to hearts overflowing with compassion.

As the world swirls with hurt, let’s not turn away. Let’s learn to cry with those who are hurting. Let’s turn news reports into prayers. Most of all, let’s pray for eyes to see that way Jesus does. We can show Christ’s love by the way we respond to our aching world.

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to the world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours

  1. Good post, Lindsey. I love that song by Casting Crowns! Two other songs also came to mind as I read your line about “let’s pray for eyes to see that way Jesus does.” You can find these on YouTube or Spotify: 1 “Looking Through His Eyes” by the Galkin Evangelistic Team (Will Galkin is supposed to be the speaker at camp this summer!), and 2 “Give Me Your Eyes” by Brandon Heath.

    1. I have not heard of the first song, but I will look it up! I have many favorites by the Galkin Team! That is funny you mention “Give Me Your Eyes”! I was thinking of that song when writing and waffled on whether to include it. It was my second choice! 🙂

  2. I love the terms of expression you use to share your thoughts. They bring to life your passion for the Lord. Don’t ever lose that!
