We have all had a lot of time at home lately. You may have seen lists of things to do while under quarantine, including ideas for self care, new habits, personal happiness.
Noticing a pattern? While it is good to find new hobbies and rest, we should not center this time around ourselves. One idea that you will not find on most lists is serving.
Now that I do not have anywhere to go, I have been seeing the opportunities I have to serve at home. Sometimes, we look right past the people who we are closest to us. But living out the gospel starts right here, in our homes.
We can start by looking for ways to encourage, help, and support your family members. Be open to the needs of others around you. Show love and patience during these long hours at home.
Serving God starts where you are, even under quaruntine.
Romans 12:9-12 “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
Ooh, that’s a good point. It reminds me of this list by AJ (she’s on YDubs): https://amie-jayne.com/2020/03/21-things-to-do-during-lockdown/

Spending more time at home means you are with your family so much more. I feel like I can be upset about it and all the things I can’t get done. Or, as I’m learning and trying to do, use it as a time to do so much more together. Working together on simple projects. And don’t set my expectations to high or my to do list too long.

I agree! We can dwell on everything we cannot do or need to do, or we can spend time with our family working on other things. I can relate to making my to do list way to long! 🙂

“Sometimes, we look right past the people who we are closest to us.” That’s so, so true. It’s a tragic aspect of our (MY) sin nature that we often hurt (or neglect) most the people we love most. How deeply we need a Savior! Good words. Thank you, as always, for your posts.
