“The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.” -Russel Nelson
Do you ever find yourself wishing life could be different? Maybe if that one thing changed you could be content. I have found myself in this spot many times. In fact, it was only a couple months ago when this quote came across my screen as I was swiping through Pinterest. It was a reminder of what God had been teaching me.
It is easy to fall into the mindset of basing our contentment off of our circumstances. I am sure most people could come up with an “if only” list. These lists would include all of the ways we would feel more content. But circumstances are always changing. Things, people, and feelings will let us down. But God never will.
True contentment, true joy, is only found in the focus of our lives. When Christ is our focus, then we will be content through any and every circumstance. If you are suffering, you can be content knowing that He works all things for our good (Romans 8:28). If life is going well then you can be content knowing that every blessing comes from God.
Circumstances change, feelings fade, but the joy found in Christ is constant.
This is a shorter post than I was intending on writing, but I hope you find it encouraging! Let me know what God is teaching you in the comments below!
Definitely well stated! I don’t put my contentment in Christ all the time. A very good reminder for me to keep my eyes on the author of my faith. He knows best!

I love that quote. There are so many times that circumstances surrounding me consume my joy and leave me feeling low. What a reminder that nothing here on earth can make us feel content and happy forever, so we should only focus on Christ, the real joy giver.

if we are not content with what we have (including our current circumstances) then we will not be content with what we get.
